Final Games : Tony, Ritika, Emma & Nathan

BACKSTORY

Our idea for this game started with a desire to create something unique and engaging. We wanted to develop a game that would stand out and be enjoyable for players, and as we brainstormed, one team member, Emma, kept coming up as an inspiration. Emma is a big fan of cooking games, especially the popular Papa's Pizzeria series, which she often plays. Initially, we joked about creating a game centered around her love for this genre, where she would take on the role of a chef racing against the clock to complete customer orders. What began as a playful suggestion quickly grew into a full-fledged game concept. We decided that the chef character in our game would actually resemble Emma, as a way to make the game feel more personal and fun. This approach added an extra layer of personality to our project, as the idea evolved from a joke into a serious and unique game design that captures the excitement of fast-paced cooking games with a character inspired by one of our own team members.

THE THEME

The theme of our game is food. Set in a lively restaurant kitchen, you play as the chef responsible for fulfilling customer orders within a set time limit. The challenge is to create each dish exactly as ordered, requiring speed and accuracy. In this world, the kitchen is stocked with all necessary ingredients, and one customer enters at a time, displaying a unique recipe on the screen. Your task is to follow each recipe precisely and beat the clock, bringing a sense of urgency and focus to each order.

THE GAMEPLAY

This is a time-management and simulation game with a high-score challenge format. The player navigates the kitchen using keyboard arrow keys to move and interact with ingredients. The goal is to prepare as many correct dishes as possible without making mistakes. If you make three incorrect dishes, the game ends. Each correct dish contributes to your high score, and the challenge is to keep improving this score with each new game, playing against yourself to reach higher milestones.

THE AUDIENCE

This game is designed for teenagers who enjoy fast-paced, score-driven online games. It targets players who are comfortable with computer controls and motivated by self-improvement through high scores. The game appeals to those who like challenges that test their quick-thinking and multitasking abilities.

THE STYLE

The game features a vibrant, retro 16-bit visual style that gives it a nostalgic, pixelated charm. The interface is minimalistic, with recipe pop-ups appearing in the corner of the screen to keep gameplay clear and easy to navigate. This visual language allows players to stay focused on the action, creating an immersive experience reminiscent of vintage arcade games, free from unnecessary distractions.

INSPIRATION

FOOD ASSETS

For this project, we designed all the graphical elements, including the food, as it is the centerpiece of the player's interaction.

MAP

Tiled is an open-source software application designed for creating and editing 2D tile maps for games or other projects. It provides a flexible and user-friendly interface to design grid-based levels, environments, and worlds using tiles. Tiled supports multiple layers, object placement, and various tile formats, making it compatible with many game engines. It also allows users to create custom properties for tiles and objects, enabling detailed and dynamic map designs. Tiled is widely used by developers and hobbyists to streamline the process of building game maps.
